The Pulse of the Radio recently reported that a petition was circulating to get Ozzy Osbourne knighted. The petition now has 21’000 signatures and is rising!

Can you imagine a world where you would have to refer to the Prince of Darkness as Sir Ozzy Osbourne…maybe he could actually place an official title on his name as Sir Ozzy Osbourne, the Lord of Darkness. Whatever the case may be the petition was started by long time fan Helen Maidiotis, a 46 year-old from Australia, and it has gathered phenomenal support from all corners of the internet.

The petition argues that Ozzy should receive knighthood in light of his ‘significant contribution to the music industry’ which is a very valid and feasable point for knighthood. Ozzy, albeit having a very controversial career, has become a British culture icon and has become known worldwide as a beacon for popular and heavy music.

The petition has gained so much momentum that daughter Kelly Osbourne has thrown in support of it, with Ozzy himself announcing how pleased he was about the idea of his fans wishing to see him gain knighthood. He said:

“Getting knighted? I can’t imagine anything better… And my wife (Sharon) would become a Lady, which would be pretty cool. But I’m not gonna get upset if it doesn’t happen. I never thought I’d get further than Aston (the area of Birmingham where he was born).”

While Ozzy has had his career lows that would be points argued against knighting him, his philanthropic efforts such as charity work and donations could well cover these blemishes and the fact that he has enriched millions of lives worldwide provide no better reasoning.
