Inspired by the brand new premiere of Whitechapel‘s bloodsoaked vide for “Let Me Burn” we have decided to create a small list of five of the most disturbing videos out there. NSFW this most certainly will be, with some of the videos from cult metal video legend Mitch Massie. So without further ado, let’s strike the match and :
Whitechapel – “Let Me Burn” :
The brand new video from the band is a visceral ride, with the song detailing the acts of a mad man. Having everything a man could want (“the american dream”) the man goes into a schizophrenic rage and not only kills the wife but also begins to harm himself in some pretty horrifying ways. The video ends with the fathers daughter entering the room to find that the father has doused himself with gasoline and simply asks “Let Me Burn“… Directed by Mitch Massie the quick cut away shots, mixed in with close up’s of gore really make for a very full on experience. Particularly when the saw gets involved…
Cradle Of Filth – “From The Cradle To Enslave” :
The uncensored video for Cradle Of Filth‘s genius song has got it all! Revolving around the band meeting their individual demise throughout the song, usually from completely naked deadly women. One by one the band are disposed of, reminiscent of a b movie version of Hellraiser, particularly the end where Dani Filth gets his heart ripped out and force fed to him. Not to mention those weird creatures with creased heads and small arms…
Cattle Decapitation – “Forced Gender Reassingment” :
The infamous video, the video that made people rage throughout the internet. Shortly after releasing their 2012 effort Monolith Of Inhumanity, Cattle Decapitation teamed up with director Mitch Massie to create one of the most extreme videos in metal. Centering around the lyrics, just read the song title to get a gist of it, we are brutally shown how the gender can be reassingned. It’s almost turned into a cult video now, revered for its sheer feral brutality it is worthy of a watch but be warned, its one of the most intense, violent and just down right wrong videos out there.
Cephalic Carnage – “Ohrwurm” :
This video did slip through the cracks of the metal world when it was released although that doesn’t make it any less downright weird than the other videos mentioned. Cephalic Carnage chose “Ohrwurm” off their Misled By Certainty album to include some of the weirdest ideas in music video history. Consisting of a man and a woman beginning the have sex, then worms get involved, blood, until the final crescendo that will have all men clutching their crown jewels! Check the video out, the song itself is great and personally the oddity of the video fits perfectly with the meandering of the song. This album was released five years ago now for all you grind heads out there, time does fly!
The Dillinger Escape Plan – “When I Lost My Bet” :
Time now for the final video in our small list, although no where near as full on, violence loving or nude worshipping as the previous videos. The Dillinger Escape Plan‘s video for “When I Lost My Bet” is pretty odd to say the least. Directed again by Mitch Massie the director has a very distinct style, working excellently with the schizophrenic screams of Greg Puciato. Beginning with fast cut away shots of feathers and a bloodied mouth, it highlights the characteristic cinematopgraphy that Massie employs. Focusing so much of certain parts of the body they appear alien and not even human, whilst also concentrating on specific parts of the face, particularly the eyes to give a sense of the feral. Throughout the song it gets even more odd, until the walls have mouths in them and arms flailing about. Like I said, definitely not the winner for all out violence but definitely a great, weird video that will make you go back for more!
