Perhaps some may have heard of them but it is a crying shame if you haven’t, made up for four members Jasun Tipton (Guitar,Keys) Troy Tipton (Bass Guitar) Mike Guy (Drums) Jason Montero (Guitar) Abnormal Thought Patterns are an instrumental band with a difference. Most instrumental bands seem to focus on playing as much music as possible in the shortest amount of time. With their latest release “Manipulation Under Anaesthesia” ATP have crafted a well written album with very simple elements and often not much technical prowess. Save for some of the more shred licks, most of it could even be lumped in with the Jazz category. With songs like “Calculating Patterns” that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Weather Report record, to “4 String Lullaby” a small interlude of just bass guitar and the slightly ominous sounding “Manipulation Under Anaesthesia” as well as having the four track opening suite “Velocity And Acceleration“. A band that has most definitely gone under the radar but you wont regret checking out!
Manipulation Under Anaesthesia is out now on Lifeforce and here is part 7 of the slow building Velocity and Acceleration suite!
