Machine Head cancelled their epic November tour a couple of weeks ago to put finishing touches on upcoming album ‘Bloodstone & Diamonds‘ set to feature Children of Bodom, Epica, and Battlecross – upsetting the fans and bands alike. Given the internet flare-up they have announced they will be going solo for the North American trek.
It seems like Machine Head are just trying to avoid another support band backlash with the announcement of a one-band tour, but will take advantage of this occasion by providing fans with a longer Machine Head set and a bigger stage show. Rob Flynn commented on the tour rescheduling and solo tour announcement:
“We’re doing ‘An Evening With’ Machine Head. Meaning it’ll just be us, folks.
“We are really excited about the idea, playing longer sets, throwing in some deep cuts, and just having our own world.
“Promoters in the U.S. seem really stoked about it. Some have said it feels like ‘an event.'”
“We’re not trying to have a good time with a bunch of people who don’t know who we are.
“If Machine Head throws a party, big or small, we don’t want a bunch of ‘strangers’ there. This is about us and you guys, the die-hards! The Fucking Undesirables! We don’t care about the others out there. We’re here and we’re not going anywhere. If those people want to be a part of this, they know where to find us. So for the time being, and maybe ‘forever,’ we’re done reaching out for them.”
The decision is a double-edged sword – while a dedicated Machine Head show is awesome, it does but the band (especially Rob Flynn) in a very arrogant light. But no doubt this will attract Machine Head fans for what will probably be the only solo-tour in a very long time.
