What seemed like a long shot a while ago has become a reality, a full blown metalhead is now the frontman of a 240 million strong entourage, Indonesia.

Joko Widodo, former govenor of Jakarta, who was very forward about his love for metal music was elected president last night winning 53.1% of the Indonesian vote.

When interviewed by numerous news agencies last year he was attending a Metallica concert, citing the mentioned band, Napalm Death and others being major influences in his life. Widodo is seen as a figure that cares more for the social side of Indonesia, which likely won him the presidency, but with a nation becoming so engulfed in metal (see Global Metal) it shouldn’t be a suprise that the nation would vote for a man to represent the metal collective of the east Asian country.

The metal world could not be more proud. Congratulations Widodo!
