As any of The Metalist‘s fans will know we love Abbath. Being a spokesperson for all things metal and well slightly ridiculous, it comes with great pleasure, along with sadness that we announce today that Immortal shall be put to rest. However! This doesn’t mean that our favourite corpse painted warrior will be leaving us, not by a mile.
Going by his real name Olve Eikemo, or Abbath as most of the metal community knows him. The founding member of Immortal has been busy writing new material. With tons of new music ready to be recorded, it seems that he just cannot come to the right kind of terms with the rest of the band. Ever grateful for all the help brought in by fellow members Demonaz, Horgh and Apollyon, Abbath has decided to forge his own path. Over the next two years we will see the release of a brand new album , along with performances, two of which have already been announced. The first being in the U.K. at London’s Forum on September 18th and the second back on home territory in Bergen, headlining 2016’s Blastfest.
I believe that this will be a good thing, take Guns ‘n’ Roses, what should be known as the Axl Rose Show for legal reasons still remains Guns ‘n’ Roses. None of what was ever in the band remains, with such a vast line up change its nothing like the epitomy of rock ‘n’ roll that it once was. Instead of creating the same fate for the Immortal name, Abbath has wisely decided to go it alone. Ensuring that his creativity will reside yet the name will not be tarnished, personally I think a lot more people should take a leaf out of the Abbath book of Blashyrkh…
It’s also been six years since the absolutely brilliant All Shall Fall and I don’t think that I am alone in saying this that we would all love to hear some new material!
