No doubt almost all of the Metal community know about the recent happenings in the Anselmo world and it seems that they are having repercussions…
Scheduled to appear at this year’s Fortarock Festival, Down have now been cancelled by the festival’s organisers. Owing to the man’s recent behaviours the executives of the festival have come together and rightly so have decided that the band will not be performing at Fortarock 2016. Stating :
“After the recent outbursts by singer Phil Anselmo during the Dimebash event in the U.S., his band Down is no longer welcome at FortaRock. Anselmo ended the show in the U.S. with a Nazi salute and shouted “white power”. They continue : “There has been close consultation between all parties recent days, since we wanted to make a well informed decision. On that basis, the decision is made to cancel the act. We want to make clear that there is no room for racism or fascism on FortaRock.”
Regardless of whatever community there is no place for racism full stop, who cares if it’s in the Metal community or if it’s in any other community. An act like the one Anselmo demonstrated deserves to have consequences and it’s about time someone did something about it.
Fortarock will take place June 4th and 5th at Nijmegen
