Guest Review by Giuseppe Marchesani
As the Invictus games drew to a close, the final ceremony to commemorate the efforts of injured soldiers, was announced to be one full of show and entertainment, topped by Foo Fighter’s headlining the event.
The 7 hours that divided most of the attendees from the real reason behind their attendance (you’ve guessed it, The Foo Fighters) were filled with bands such as The Vans , James Blunt and Kaiser Chiefs.
Skipping over the fact that, short of the Chiefs, every other band had me consider injecting myself with a lethal dose of heroin and uranium (just for good measure), the wait only made bearable by the incredible stories of recovery most injured soldiers had to go through.
Once the musical ordeal was done with, the intro for My Life was welcomed by the 26 Thousand attendees like cool water in the Sahara desert.
My Life was quickly followed by Times like These, My Hero and The Pretender. There are very few bands that have that sort of warm up set, let alone the ability to play songs like those back to back without catching a breath.
The one and a half hour the Foos were given was filled with anything you would think it would; laughs, great songs and the feeling that you were looking at a man, (Dave Grohl) who has been part of two of the biggest rock bands in the world, yet is still attached to his humanity.
All in all, they were given very little time and ran through Everlong, Walk and the other all time greats, which, even by Dave’s own admission, are way too many to be played in one evening.
What he probably does not know is that with a performance like last nights’, there would have not been a single soul that would have walked out of a Foo Fighters marathon.
I for one, am counting the minutes the release of Sonic Highways, only a few days away from my birthday. I could not have asked for a better present.
