Generally when band’s post updates, it is to inform the public that they are hard at work on a new album. Not Dimmu Borgir however, they just wanted to let us know that they haven’t really started work on a new album.
For an active band, a new Dimmu album is long over due since the release of 2010’s ‘Abrahadabra‘. After their tour cycle was complete not much has been heard directly from the band except blurbs about side projects such as Shargrath’s Chrome Division. Finally something has been posted about what is going on with Dimmu Borgir, but it’s not really the news that we want to hear!
In an recent interview with Radio Rock the band’s guitarist Silenoz stated that hardly any material has been written for a new album, yet offered his reasons why:
“We usually take two-three years in between each release of the albums anyway, but now it’s almost four years since the last album came out, so it’s about time so we can wrap this up and get going with it. That would be great. I mean, we always take our time. If we’re gonna rush things, then it’s not gonna be something we can stand behind anyway, so we just have to take the time it takes to make it.”
We can’t argue with his reasoning, especially since the last few albums have been nothing short of brilliant. Perhaps the creative energy really took time to restore this time. He added to his commentary:
“I think we always need a sort of break. Maybe not this long, but after each album and touring cycle, I think every band should take a short break at least, because you need to get away from each other, just to regroup and get perspective.”
Now that the cards are on the table I think we can safely assume that the band will very shortly begin dedicating their time to a new album, and given the long break they have – we will have high expectations!
