Deftones were teasing that they were working on new material previously when fifteen seconds of new material surfaced in the past couple of weeks. However now we can confirm that there will indeed be a new Deftones album. After speaking with Rolling Stone front man Chino Moreno stated that currently the band is tracking the new album and it is thought to conclude by the end of the month, with mixing and mastering to follow closely afterwards.
Stating there will be roughly sixteen tracks on the new album and that it will be ready for a September, October release date. The signer also commented on the way the tracks are sounding :
“I feel like we’ve gone into the songs and really dissected them. If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven’t done in the past. It definitely feels like we’ve taken a step from our last record. But it’s definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are. We’re not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box.”
So that’s good news if you’re a Deftones fan, with their previous two albums Diamond Eyes the band took a more aggressive edge whereas Koi No Yokan seemed to dial things back slightly. Either way we should look forward to new material later this year.
