In typical Cradle Of Filth fashion the band have released a brand new long winded song, yet it’s not all as it might seem.
Often tackling the tales of old, where beasties lurk and vampires lie, with second single “Deflowering The Maidenhead, Displeasuring The Goddess” Cradle Of Filth instead decide to speak of something a lot more current. At first hand it might seem like something to do with a gothic woman, however on closer inspection it is revealed that the “Goddess” is actually Gaia. Known as the goddess of Earth, this is a metaphor for humans de flowering the Maidenhead (Earth) which then displeases the Goddess (Gaia).
Kept still firmly in the classic Cradle vein it’s interesting to see the band take on a subject of modernity, not quite on the political socio ecological level of Cattle Decapitation but still! Now, for the song itself it’s absolutely fantastic! Sitting just under the seven minute mark the track ebb’s and flows featuring guitar solo’s when needed and a fantastic sense of pace. If “Right Wing…” and this track are anything to go by then Hammer Of The Witches will be a truly stunning return to form.
Cradle Of Filth’s brand new album Hammer Of The Witches is out July 10th via Nuclear Blast.
