Ahead of their release on Monday Carach Angren have decided to let the world in on their latest morbid tale. Streaming their brand new album This Is No Fairytale is now available for your listening pleasure. The fourth album from Carach Angren sees them deliver potentially their darkest story yet. In the past we’ve had tales of the Flying Dutchman and other folk lore, borne from the members love of horror and the stuff of legend. The symphonic black metal is here in spades, yet what makes Carach Angren more than just another symphonic black metal band is their sense of atmosphere. Within the the morbid paroles of singer Seregor we’re painted a harrowing picture. Instead of using the more traditional style of lyrics, much of the band’s genius lies from the straight forward narrative style.
Although the symphonic almost Tim Burton-esque strings that give the album a true sense of foreboding linger from opener “Once Upon A Time…” to the final closer “Tragedy Ever After“. When the band kick in it makes for some truly devastating black metal. Although many would argue that their horror moniker would seem almost a gimmick when its executed with this much class its hard to not love the band.
Prepare to sit uncomfortably while Carach Angren take you on a truly evil journey, complete with stories of battery, witchcraft and abuse… Not for the faint hearted.
