Archetypal in the fruition of Death Metal, metal heads the world over shall forever be indebted to the genius that was Death. Pioneers of a more technical ability whilst never forgoing melody the band grew exponentially both in musical direction and philosophical ideals but it wasn’t always like that… Beginning as as a zombie munching horror loving entity before its lofty theoretical transformation. Having made their debut with Savage Land just last year Gruesome return with a brand new EP Dimensions of Horror once more to simultaneously honour and challenge Death.

Entering the void of terror we’re instantly greeted with those most familiar of tones, as the death knell of a cymbal brings the arrival of “Forces of Death” cascading down, in keeping with the Leprosy style era. Gruesome understand exactly when to bring groove to the forefront and when to stick to the classic fast paced ripper.
Inspired by the cult classic Evil Dead, “Raped By Darkness” is a different take on the infamous vine scene in the film. Remaining in the thrashing quarters the band’s sound bleeds out with fluid changes owing to the simplistic dynamics. The more punk oriented “Seven Doors” brings more of an acidic tinge to the band, seeing a more boisterous side to the group before the otherworldly introduction of title track “Dimensions of Horror” stand out track on the album. Frantic drumming gives way to more structured riffing whilst never being boring understanding exactly the songs structure to deliver maximum headbangability.
Beginning as a homage with Savage Land, Gruesome have proven their worth. Despite their loyalty to the cause elements of Dimensions of Horror bring creativity to the table. With the band working together to the inner workings of the song draped by the ornamentation of Death Metal right up to th Ed Repka artwork with classic early nineties feel. Showing that regardless of their love for Schuldiner, Gruesome are just as much their own brilliant Death Metal band they just wear their hearts on their sleeve.

[why]Fans of Death Metal will willingly enter and never return from the Dimensions of Horror. Nothing will ever top the classics but this EP comes close, a fitting tribute to the Florida kings.[/why]
