We continue into day three of our Christmas album of the year countdown with the power metal supergroup that released their sophomore album after a very long wait.
Cain’s Offering – Stormcrow
A project by ex-Sonata Arctica axeman Jani Liimatainen took the world by storm in 2009 by the name of Cain’s Offering, and revived that classic Sonata Arctica power metal sound that has long disappeared. It seemed at the time that this was to be a one album project, but with such phenomenal response from a debut, Jani told the world there would be another.
2015 finally saw that release in ‘Stormcrow‘ when he could get the supergroup together when all had some synchronised downtime from their respective bands.
‘Stormcrow‘ is massive in all regards of power metal – super technical leads, bombastic choruses and melodic interludes all wrapped in a diverse package that covers ballads, mid-tempo epics and thunderous melodic speed metal.
Perhaps the public’s love of ‘Stormcrow‘ yet again derives from the revival of classic Sonata Arctica sounds, but it goes to show how much it is missed, and how Cain’s Offering are capitalising on it. They completely outdid themselves with this one.
