Being rumoured for a while, it has now been widely reported that the label that brought you Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility and Napalm Death has been acquired by Sony.

According to the report Century Media was acquired for $17 million – the largest amount of money we’ve seen in metal for quite some time!

Last time a label was acquired by Sony it ended up shutting down all its European offices, (RIP Roadrunner), and there has been valid concern by fans that this will affect the quality of the bands being under major label scrutiny now. 

We doubt it as it’s likely to run as an autonomous arm of Sony, but let’s see what time brings!
