As the saying goes never say never. Deciding to call it quits with the classic old school Death Metal leanings of Vomitory it would seem that the decision to disband was in fact unbeknownst to the members themselves a red herring. Feeling the creative itch once more the principle members Tobias Gustafsson and bassist Eric Rundqvist decided to band together, holing themselves up in the studio the band at last decided to vent their creative blood lust in the form of Cut Up.

Make no mistake the band have not reinvented the wheel, but that wasn’t their mission statement. Made up of brutal pin point accuracy this is Old School Death Metal at its finest. Moving through the various stages in the life time of a Death Metal song, single “Burial Time” begins with a relentless assault. Later drunkenly sliding into the bulldozer grooves that the genre has become a part of. Speaking of particularly gruesome and often nonsensical song titles “Brain Cell Holocaust” fits snugly in the grisly niche. It’s the instrumentation that wins gold, it would seem that Cut Up are at their best when they decide to slow the pace down with earth crushing mid riff in the aforementioned song.

It’s not all slow rumblings however, for all out attack “Camouflesh” sits high atop its perch. Fierce riffs lash their way through the record with vocalist Rundqvist’s inhuman growls holding weight. Coupled with the excellent production of the album give a serious sense of earthy, classic Death Metal. Regardless if this might be the band’s debut they perform like seasoned veterans. Returning back to weighty sense that the band thrive on we see the arrival of “Order Of The Chainsaw” sure to make even Leatherface throw his horns in the air. Polished off with a beautifully placed soundbyte of, you guessed it a chainsaw. Complete with sounds of a body being dismembered, lovely.

Though the bands ideals might be stuck in the ways of the past their execution is by much that of the present. Having two members from an already classic Death Metal act combined with new blood of guitarist and Anders Bjornsson along with Anders Bertilsson gives a youthful sound. Matching the older sense of Rundqvist and and Gustafsson,so to pigeonhole the band in that respect would be denying them the furious accuracy they so surely deserve. Bred on bloody paroles, gritty guitar lines and some incredible solo’s Cut Up are able to bridge the gap between the bands of old with the sound of renewed life. Be it when the band kick it up with expeditious tracks like “Bunker Z16” or the dense lumbering of “Dead And Impaled“. Forensic Nightmares ensures that the listener knows this is not Vomitory 2.0 and the band have created a fitting new breed. This is a must for any self respecting Death Metal fan, likely to be overlooked by many this is one you don’t want to miss out on.

[why]For the fans of Vomitory that thought that the blood drenched ride was over, there is now no reason to be Cut Up. Forensic Nightmares delivers on sheer brute force coupled with accuracy that only a seasoned veteran would be able to execute. [/why]
