At long last the infamous thrash metal kings have released new material for us very patient metal fans. With it being almost a year since the first new evidence on new Slayer material. Released in time for Record Store Day tomorrow, the track will also be accompanied by a live version of “Black Magic“. But how is it?
It’s good. Really good. The precise reason being that it doesn’t sound like typical Slayer! At last something that doesn’t just sound like Reign In Blood for the thousandth time over. Don’t get me wrong I love Slayer and respect them immensely though they can be slightly samey. “When The Stillness Comes” is the absolute perfect teaser for the coming new record and has definitely got my interests peaked. With a big presence of of bass the track malevolently builds until its final crescendo. This has truly made me excited for the new Slayer album that will at long last be seeing that light of say this year.
Kerry King says it best :
“I know there’s gonna be naysayers,” he said. “I know there’s gonna be people expecting us to fail, because so many things changed in the last six years. I’m prepared for that ’cause I know humans are just retards when they get on the Internet. But I know we put a good product together. I’m proud of it.”
He most definitely should be, six years is a long time. So many different line up changes additions, deaths, material that must have been on the back burner. If this is anything of an indication of what the new Slayer is going to sound like then we are ALL in for a huge treat this year.
Slayer’s brand new album will be released later this year. But you can pick up their limited edition single on Record Store Day!
