Now that the band have previously announced the artwork and track listing for the new album AND a brand new European tour, it seems that Coal Chamber have finally deemed it suitable to release a brand new song. The defiant “I.O.U. Nothing” is pretty much as Coal Chamber as it gets, which is by no means a bad thing. Always being an easy target for elitist metal heads to take pot shots at, Coal Chamber although not exactly the most complex music have proven that they can still write some pretty catchy songs! Not quite an album of the year, unless you’re a die hard fan, but still this is a band that haven’t recorded any new material since 2002. Not exactly a small gap to bridge, not to mention the gargantuan genre change that we have seen in mainstream music.

Not to mention that the album’s production duties were handled fantastically by Mark Lewis, who seems to really be making a name with himself. Especially after last years new Cannibal Corpse album A Skeletal Domain.

It may only be the first single but “I.O.U. Nothing” shows that yes indeed the band does owe us nothing. Good songwriting and a fantastic way to introduce what Coal Chamber sound like thirteen years on.
