Continuing on with yesterday’s announcement of who will be kicking off the festival for their Friday headlining slot Download have now announced their Saturday head liner to be the space rockers Muse! I personally think that this is a great choice, yes it is commercial but Muse are fantastic song writers and before their went off in their own little world with The Resistance and 2nd Law we’re always kindred spirits with the alternative scene. Not to mention their live performances are the stuff of legend. Choosing their set list here will be particularly important. Yes Download is probably the most commercial metal festival in the UK but its no Glastonbury so I would imagine cuts from Origin Of Symmetry and Absolution making appearances.
Not overlooking the fact that Faith No More will be Saturday’s main support, with their announcement that a new album will be seeing the light of day next year they’re sure to throw down the gauntlet. Prior to Faith No More sure to get things in the party mood are the very commercial A Day To Remember, however I would imagine that they would be absolutely brilliant on the main stage and it’s about time they got there, potentially being one of the biggest pop punk bands there are they deserve their recognition at the very least. I wish the same could be said for Marilyn Manson who now sounds nothing like his former self with new song “Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge” being potentially the most boring material he’s put out to date but hey always a good show man.
The point is, if you want heavy dark death metal et al then hop over the channel to Hellfest. Download has over time, become more and more commercial but that doesn’t mean to say the acts would be anything short of spectacular.
Check back tomorrow for installment number three where we find out the closing head liners!
