After having released the excellent alien disco that was “Deathray” from the second of two part album Z2 we’re now being treated to the other side of coin. Along with Dark Matters, Z2 will contain a new Devin Townsend Project album entitled Sky Blue. “Rejoice” being the first single off the album is typically Devin Townsend. His trademark production, enveloping the listener in a wall of sound through lots of different layering of vocals and guitar tracks. Throughout the song there’s some slightly weird (as ever) distorted female vocals. Although not quite in the same vein as the last release from The Devin Townsend Project and Epicloud, it strays to the light more than to the dark. All the while giving the impression that things could get a little heavier…
This is just one track off of Sky Blue so we’ve yet to hear the both sides of the album in its entirety but its sure to be a memorable ride. Love him or hate him as the Marmite guy he is, there’s no denying that there is no other like Devin Townsend.
Listen to the song below and see what you think, Devin Townsend will release Z2 on October 27th via Inside Out and you can preorder the album here.
