It appears our predictions about Black Sabbath’s previous release ’13’ being their last were incorrect, and we are very happy about that…Black Sabbath will record again!

In an interview with Metal Hammer, the band’s iconic frontman Ozzy Osbourne has stated that the band intend to record a new album next year, despite guitarist Tommi Iommi’s battle with cancer and the fact that he has taken up a new teaching job at the University of Coventry.

Ozzy described how the last tour breathed new life into Sabbath and there will be one more album:

“The whole Sabbath experience this time around was great, we all made friends, we didn’t fuck around, we all knew that we had a job to do, and we did it. It was a lot of fun. So we’re going to do one more album, and a final tour.”

Ozzy then went on to explain the decision behind why the band has decided to make an new album, as opposed to ride out on the success of ‘13‘:

“Once the dust settled after the last tour, we started discussing the idea, because we were getting asked about it all the time. I said to [wife/manager] Sharon, ‘What’s going on? Because if there’s no more Sabbath, I want to get on with my own thing again,’ and she came back and said, ‘Let me look into it.’ Three weeks later, I asked her about it again, and she said, ‘Oh, I still have to talk to so and so…’ and I said ‘Sharon, I ain’t fucking 21 anymore. If we’re going to do it, I want to do it before I’m 70!’ Time isn’t on our side! So she made the call and came back and said, ‘Yeah, the record company wants another album.’ I believe [producer] Rick Rubin is going to do it with us again.”

So this means that there will be another Sabbath album, and it will come soon! We all thought that Ozzy was teasing a new solo album earlier this year, but still his efforts will remain with Sabbath for the time being. When asked exactly when we can expect the new album Ozzy said:

“It’ll be sooner rather than later, obviously a lot of it is coming down to Tony’s health, he’s obviously got his cancer treatment, but we’ll get onto it next year. I don’t know if we’ll be writing in England or L.A., but I’ll fly to the fucking moon for it if I have to!”

Apparently there is unused material left over from the last Sabbath album that could make an appearance on the next album, but surely quite a bit of effort will be going into this album as now we believe it is quite likely to be their last. We look forward to receiving updates on the new, and likely last album of the godfathers of heavy metal.
