Led Zeppelin Sued For Copyright Infringement of ‘Stairway to Heaven’

A song that was released 43 years ago is now the centrepiece of a copyright infringement suit, and that song is the one that we all play in the guitar store, ‘Stairway to Heaven‘.

A band from the 1960’s named Spirit have brought the case forward against Led Zeppelin, which actually appears to be going to court as the band have hired famed entertainment lawyer Helene Freeman to defend them in a copyright infringement claim. The claim put forward states that Spirit’s instrumental song ‘Taurus‘ sounds remarkably similar to the opening notes of ‘Stairway to Heaven‘, a claim which Jimmy Page has only come out and said ‘ridiculous’.

Our take? Well if you listen to it you can’t deny that it does sound kind of similar, but there are only so many notes in music and it’s likely that this was all a coincidence. You can hear the song ‘Taurus‘ below though and judge for yourself:
