Stop The Presses, Slipknot Have Released New Track

Slipknot Negative One

Not having released anything since 2008’s All Hope Is Gone AND having to deal with the departure of integral cog Joey Jordison as well as the death of bassist Paul Gray, Slipknot are under a fair amount of pressure. They have made their first song off their album available for streaming at their site. Entitled “The Negative One” I must admit, I wasn’t blown away. Definitely moving back to older style of Slipknot, self titled – Iowa era. The ferocity that they were reknown for is definitely there, the only problem is the production gets in the way. Perhaps it may be due to streaming the track but I felt that the drums weren’t anywhere near the quality of previous work, lacking a lot of impact when it was really needed. In terms of song writing as well, its a bit of an ordeal to get your head round, having said that by the time Taylor yells out the final chorus its beginning to get cemented in your head.

BUT

This is just one song that has been premiered online, perhaps the final product shall have better production and be more of a return to form of the Slipknot that we all know and love. Nevertheless we need to remember that Slipknot has changed in the 6 years between writing their last music which is a long period with different line up changes, either way it sounds like we’re in for an interesting ride.
