Dan Swano returns for another piece of the conceptual puzzle with a brand new album from Witherscape.
For those who might be unfamiliar with the band, Witherscape is a project brought together by both Dan Swano and Ragnar Widerberg. Each record being a concept album the band have decided to begin their latest chapter The Northern Sanctuary.
Penned for a July 22nd release via Century Media the new album picks up exactly where previous The Inheritance left off. Swano comments regarding the story :
“The theme picks up where we left off with the “The New Tomorrow” EP. There is a 50 year jump in the time line from the 1st album and the main character “Mannen i vitt” (The man in white) has purchased the house where all the horror initially happened. He’s restored it and rents out rooms to people from the big cities, who are aiming for some peaceful northern Swedish silence. But the entity still haunts the house and “Mannen i vitt” is possessed by it, so consequently he/it does terrible things to the “patients”. Since the house is built on one of the gates to hell, there’s a ritual taking place, opening the hellish dimension from where the evil entity once came, so it can go back there…”
Artwork for the record’s cover was designed using Hungarian Gyula Havancsak and if a little cheesy will no doubt represent all the elements the band are striving for. Blending elements from the classic Prog period of the 70’s to the 80’s yet with a modern twist it will be interesting to see how Swano attempts to surpass his previous effort.
