Unbeknownst to many Dream Theater have been slowly toiling away at their new album. Announcing that their brand new concept album coup will be entitled The Astonishing last night the band debuted a brand new track.
Premiering the song on Rolling Stone along with a fantastically interesting and in depth interview with John Petrucci the new age of Dream Theater has come. Whilst the album set for a January 29th release “The Gift of Music” has been made available for our listening pleasure. No doubt draw some comparisons to the likes of Prog ovelords Rush’s 2112 album, which to be fair would be selling the band short.
Running a total time of 2 hours and 10 minutes the new album will be the most ambitious work to date potentially by any band! Completely thought up by Petrucci the story of The Astonishing is entirely original.
Being one of the most musically adventurous bands out there Dream Theater stand alone. In this easily their most ambitious work to date and potentially in the Prog catalogue the band have created a fully fledged world. Set in the steampunk style dystopia the rock opera will be detailing a fight between two factions The Great Northern Empire and The Ravenskill Rebel Militia. Again another comparative of Hunger Games might surface but bare in mind all of this was done for the sake of one album!
Conjuring up an entire world the band have created musical reliefs that will be returning to show certain elements of the story. Nevertheless you’re not all interested in that! There’s the small matter of brand new material, so without further ado here is “The Gift of Music“.
The album is available now for preorder with a huge variety of formats, from the classic two CD double album to the four LP vinyl release. For hose who order e album through Amazon, a strictly limited edition patch for either Ravenskill or the Empire will be received as well as an instant download of the band’s brand new single. This is absolutely one of he most flamboyant releases no doubt and will be kicking 2016 firmly into gear!
