Epica are well on their way to solidifying their status as not only a symphonic metal great, but a simple metal great. Their latest epic ‘The Quantum Enigma‘ scored fierce points with critics worldwide with the refinement of the Epica symphonic clash of death metal and progressive metal. It really does seem like you guys are a touring machine. The past 2 years you have just been going and going! How do you do it? Does it burn you out at all?!
Nah, it gives you energy! At least most of the shows give you energy. Of course sometimes you play shows on a Tuesday evening and people have to work the next day and they don’t want to drink, they just want to enjoy the show. It’s harder to get into it. The more energetic [the fans] are, the easier it is for us. So I always like wild crowds full of energy, and then it is a very easy job for us. It’s not easy to get burnt out.
So you don’t get tired when you are playing, you just feed off the energy of the fans?
Yes! Exactly!
So it’s not coming to any sort of halt at all?
Nope. Sooner or later there may be a little break, first we are going to record a new album and start a new touring cycle. Maybe then we will take a little break just to recharge some batteries.
And that was the next question, after this tour is over I guess you guys are going to hop straight into making a new album!
Yea exactly, it’s all going really well. We are still growing as a band, and there are some great opportunities coming up, and some great touring opportunities as well, so now we have to reap what we sow! It really feels like now is the time for us, we always dreamt about being able to play at this level and now we finally get it, so there’s no time to rest!
