Former guitarist of melodic death metal titans Arch Enemy, Christopher Amott, has announced a there will be a new Armageddon album.
Armageddon, the lesser known side project of Amott have released an official track and lyric video from their upcoming album ‘Captivity and Devourment‘. The track itself is named ‘Thanatron‘, and Christopher Amott himself had words to say about his new project:
“‘Thanatron’ is a heavy mid-tempo track with some dissonant harmonic ideas, and has some very interesting riffs. An ominous acoustic intro sets the the tone for some face-pummeling rhythms. Desecration of humanity. THE END.”
Adds bassist Sara Claudius: “I called this song ‘Thanatron’, which literally means death machine, a term coined by Jack Kevorkian and used as a name for his invention. However, in this story, I’m telling you about a scientist who is watching the death of a star from many lightyears away and his… personal feelings about it, let’s just say.
“Across the album, I wrote the lyrics revolving around one character in a loose plot.”
“We are looking forward to publishing this album and getting the songs, artwork, and lyrics together in one super metal package for you.”
The cover artwork for “Captivity & Devourment” was designed by visual master Paolo Girardi, who created this oil painting after reading the album lyrics and story written by Claudius. The group states: “He took his own inspiration and painted a scene of total destruction as described across the album. We thoroughly enjoyed our collaboration with him. We strictly did not want the uninspired digital photoshop album art that is so prevalent these days. This is hand painted visions of a man inspired by music.”
Upon listening to the track ourselves it is indeed quite different but quite captivating, combining a sludgey sound with melodic death metal. The forthcoming album could be quite the ear candy. Listen to the track below:
